Learn to windsurf

Monday, 20 August 2007
bridge.jpgDobroyd Aquatic Club (DAC) is arguably the home of Raceboard windsurfing in Australia and has produced many high calibre sailors some of whom have represented the country at the international level.

DAC is always looking to expand our fleet with new sailors and provides training to facilitate this process. The club has also been nominated by Yachting Australia as the official training centre for NSW. The club is located in the relatively small and sheltered Iron Cove which provides an ideal venue for learning to windsurf.

The training provided at DAC includes beginners windsurfing (Basic Skills) as well as coaching for more experienced windsurfers who might want to develop advanced Raceboard racing technique.

The beginners or learn to windsurf training follows the Australian Yachting Federation National Windsurfing Scheme “Level 1 Basic Skills” Course. Provided below is a summary of the basic skills training.

SUMMARY

The basic skills training will be run on 4 consecutive Saturday mornings from 10am to 12 noon at the Club. It will provide 8 hours of windsurfing tuition and includes both learning the theory behind windsurfing as well as demonstrations on land and water plus on the water training.

The training will occur in at least 3 knots of wind on appropriate training boards that are provided by the club. At the completion of the course the student will be able to prepare and launch the windsurfer, sail a
small triangular course and complete a self rescue.

All instruction will be provided by an AYF qualified Senior Instructor with all necessary insurances.

PREREQUISITE

All students undertaking the windsurfing Basic Skills training are to have a degree of water confidence and be able to swim at least 50 metres.
